G Living Members | The Darker Cooler Side Of Green

So, how do you resist the pressure of the outside world when eating healthy? I grew up with a father who made us eat every single thing on the plate before we could get up from the table. I have that "guilty" feeling every time I tell someone no. I guess it's just something I will have to practice in front of the mirror and get comfortable with. "No, I will not eat that fake-sugar laden, pesticide ridden, carcinogenic inflicting, piece of garbage you are trying to feed me. It looks and beautiful and my tastebuds may love it but my body just can't handle it." I think I'll have to work on the delivery and wording.

The only way to avoid it is to tell people so they know ahead of time and are prepared for your refusal or just bring your own food. It helps when there are others around you trying to be vegan or raw as well but I'm in the Latin capital of the US- cuban toast and lechon are the maintstays and vegans are hard to come by- maybe on the beach....

I did just find Purely Raw- the magazine for raw foodies. It's $25 a year but that's a $25 investment into my future. I'm also going to work on making an indoor garden this weekend-

That sounds great. Plus, your friends don't have to be raw or vegan to enjoy the food. That's a good way to win them over. Make them something good. :) You know who does that really well is Pure Food and Wine in NYC. You can take anyone, I mean anyone.. big meat eater and they will love the food. I have been there for meetings with people who would never eat vegan and they just are blown away and can't stop talking about the food. So, you know when they go home, they are re-thinking this vegan thing. It's not as tasteless as people assume. And of course that is were G Living comes in. We don't allow tasteless or even ugly recipes on the site. Only the best.

Good luck and yes take photos and come back and share. :) Thank you for being here and opening up about your path to a G Life. Your awesome!

Yes! I'm looking at different ways of finding people - I'm actually hosting a dinner at my house in a couple of weeks for all my girlfriends- I'm going to make them an entirely raw dinner. Plus that gives me practice- I'll try to post pics afterwards! Maybe I can get them to be little "raw" disciples too. ;)

Your funny.. Yes, your right, when you first decided to go veg / vegan or raw, its a shock in a way to your life as it was. You don't know how to be with the people around you. You don't want to be rude, because they don't know what your feeling. They most likely don't even know what a vegan is. I went through that 12 years ago.. I think now. I ate meat. standard everything up until I was 29. I remember going to a friends house, just after deciding to do this and they offered me a pizza with meat on it. I didn't want to be rude, so I ate it. Then went home and said to myself, why did I do that? I feel bad now and I shouldn't so... no more.. I am going to just tell people. I don't eat meat. I will buy my own.. No big deal. And from that point on.. I did. It took a good 6 months to be completely comfortable. Friends even made fun of me.. or joked around thinking they were funny. I didn't think it was too funny, but thats life. It was the best decision of my life, zero regrets.

It gets easier. Seek out some vegans.. "G" people in your area. Maybe there someone here you can hook up with. Hmm maybe we should start a group of "G" lifestyle supporters. :) Find the G Monkies in your town.
