Aloha!
So I've been a raw food, conscious eater for about 4 years now.
Green smoothies, wheatgrass shots & CSA's are no strangers to me :)
..but I've always wanted to take it to the next level.... to become REALLY sustainable. So on Sept 25th I took the plunge, leased a large property (1 acre) and have started a farm. Now just nine weeks in and with basically no experience i am, literally, tasting the fruits of my labor.
I intend to add lots more videos, how to's, no no's, etc and pass on what i've learned, but for now here's a quick video to hopefully inspire some of you to do the same.

Comment by V Blak Ⓥ on December 10, 2010 at 1:00pm What did you do to bring back the existing soil? I have been using coffee grounds and just bought some worms to start a compost pile. I was also thinking of picking up horse manure to create a large compost pile and use that to sprinkle on the top of the soil, since the plants are already growing.
I decided against creating raise beds, since I am still in the learning stage. Just getting connected with the plants and experiencing them for the first go around. This is really a training garden for me.
Comment by Ryan Burden on December 10, 2010 at 12:55pm Ahh the dump truck...... I imported 5 cubic yards of compost/soil/sand mix to put into the raised beds.... it was really just a test to see how they worked, so far so good, but in retrospect i'd save the money (about $500) and nurse the existing soil back to health.
Comment by V Blak Ⓥ on December 10, 2010 at 12:27pm looks really great. What was coming out of the dump truck? Your garden is doing much better than mine. It might have something to do with the way I prepared the soil. Thanks for the video.
