G Living Members | The Darker Cooler Side Of Green

Well, I was encouraged to write about the hell I have been going through in my kitchen...
I bought my house about a year and a half ago. It was a fixer-upper (for sure) on the inside.
We painted and replaced all the floors in the rest of the house, but saved the kitchen
and bathrooms for later.
Now, I have been in the middle of a kitchen remodel for 6 months.
Talk about "Green Acres!" My refrigerator is plugged in on my front porch!
(I mean, I do live in a country town, but sheesh!)
I have had no cabinets since February, so everything from has been piled on my table in my living room, in boxes, etc. I even brought in my picnic table from outside and put it in my entryway to stack all my fruits and veggies and nuts and seeds on.
Why would I want to do dishes when I have a dishwasher in the garage ready to be installed? Or mop the floors if they are going to be covered over with tile?
I FINALLY got my cabinets in this week, and it feels SO good to begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel!  I was so happy to start putting things away!
Next is counters, then floors, then my appliances can come in.
I cannot WAIT to stop doing dishes in my bathtub!
This might not be the modern inspiration you were lookin' for, but maybe it'll make you grateful for what you do have, and at least it's entertaining!

Here is the "Before":

This is a start... the walls are actually a light muted turquoise, not powder blue as it looks here

Note what is missing at the sink... Yep, a faucet.

This one is quite embarrassing!  The fun part is cleaning the spinach out of my tub before I shower...

Here is a current "During": (sorry it is a cell phone pic at almost dark!)

Counters, floors, under-cabinet lighting, window sills and trim, still to come.  Stay tuned!

Congratulations on your almost new kitchen. I like the buckets...:)
Beautiful cabinets and I'm sure that the rest will be just as beautiful when it's all done. I myself am a renter but last winter my pipes froze in my kitchen and I ended up doing dishes in my tub for over a week so I totally understand what it's like to wash the spinach from the tub before showering, lol. Hang in there it will all come together :)
Beautiful..thanks you for sharing!
Thank you so much for showing us round, Tamara T!
I admire your coping strategies. :D And your sense of humour!
I like to see your drawers newly filled with scrumptious nuts and the like. It feels really exciting to be building your own kitchen.
Top banana!
How's it getting on?
